I am a writer of fiction and creative nonfiction and I live in beautiful Sonoma County, California, north of San Francisco. I started writing and publishing my work many years ago, first as a journalist, and then focusing on short fiction and essays and memoir pieces. My short story, “Since Leticia Williams Saw Jesus,” won Honorable Mention in Fiction in the 2017 Women’s National Book Association National Writing Contest. I have received four Pushcart Prize nominations, have been nominated for storySouth’s Million Writers Award and was a finalist in the Tom Howard Short Story Contest. My essay, “If We Took a Deep Breath,” was selected as a Notable Essay of 2013 for Best American Essays 2014. My work has appeared in over 100 print and online literary journals, including the Los Angeles Review, the Santa Clara Review, WomenArts Quarterly, Guernica, and Gravel, among others, and in numerous anthologies, including Solace in So Many Words, which won the Next Generation Indie Book Award for Anthology.

I was news editor for a weekly newspaper in Seattle, Washington, The Seattle Sun; an associate editor for Pacific News Service, in San Francisco; and a member of the editorial collective for VoiceCatcher, an annual journal that publishes work by Oregon women writers. My work has appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines.

I have an M.A. in English with a Concentration in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. I teach writing workshops for adults.
